Every Etsy fee, explained
- Listing fee: $0.20. Charged when you list and again each time an item sells (the listing auto-renews). Sell three of an item in one order and you pay three renewals.
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of the price you display plus what you charge for shipping and gift wrap.
- Payment processing: 3% + $0.25 (US shops) on the full order total, including shipping and the sales tax the buyer pays.
- Offsite Ads: 15% or 12% of item price plus shipping, only when a sale comes from an Etsy ad on another site. Shops under $10,000 a year pay 15% and can opt out; at $10,000+ the rate is 12% and participation is mandatory. The fee is capped at $100 per order.
- Currency conversion: 2.5% if your listings are priced in a different currency from your payment account.
Worked example
You sell a $30 print and charge $5 shipping. The buyer pays 7% sales tax, so the order total is $37.45. Etsy takes: listing $0.20 + transaction 6.5% × $35 = $2.28 + processing 3% × $37.45 + $0.25 = $1.37. That is $3.85 in fees, or 11% of the $35 you charged.
After $8 of materials and a $5.50 label, you keep $17.65, a 50% margin. If the sale came from an Offsite Ad at 15%, fees jump by $5.25 to $9.10 and profit falls to $12.40.
Offsite Ads are the single biggest swing in Etsy profitability. Many sellers under the $10,000 threshold price their items so a 15% ad fee still leaves an acceptable margin, or opt out entirely. Limitations
Fees are for shops with a US payment account. Other countries have different payment processing fees and, in some cases, a regulatory operating fee. Etsy Ads (on-site), Etsy Plus, Pattern, shipping-label insurance and instant transfers are not included. Income tax on your profit is not included either.
